New Art on the West Bank
September 25, 2003
The Forum's first program of the academic year showcased the beautiful
new Regis Center for Art in the West Bank Arts Quarter.
Anyone who has ever set foot in the colorful, but woefully inadequate,
previous art building will understand how happy Mark Pharis, chair
of the Department of Art, and his colleagues and students are with
their new home. Though just a "light industrial facility"
(in Professor Pharis' words), this 150,000 square foot building
beautifully accommodates the many aspects of visual art.
Improvements of old over the new are too numerous to detail, but
the list includes such basics as adequate ventilation, a loading
dock and freight elevator, and a profusion of natural light. More
exciting are movable walls, millions in new equipment and everywhere
wall space ready to be festooned with art.
If you missed the tour, please consider checking out the Regis
Center at their grand opening on Sunday, October 12. More information
