What is the ForUM Communicator?

The ForUM Communicator is a short, monthly e-mail to all members of the Communicators Forum that has fun (and sometimes useful!) information. It is one way we're working to build a sense of community and to promote the benefits and activities of the Forum. Archives of the ForUM Communicator are available online.

What is the purpose of the ForUM Communicator?

To:

  • • Provide a way to keep members informed about Forum information,   events, and programs.
  • • Provide information about new products and resources developed by   members.
  • • Provide information about resources that might be useful to members   in their jobs.
  • • Keep members connected between events and programs.
  • • Have some fun and promote the Forum as a great resource to a wider   audience.

What isn't the ForUM Communicator?

  • • It is not replacing any other resource or publication currently produced   by or provided to the Communicators Forum members.
  • • It is not a gossip column.
  • • It is not a “professional” publication (but rather an informal information   sharing tool).

What are the rules for contributions to the ForUM Communicator?

Any Communicators Forum member can submit information to be included in the newsletter. Topical categories (that may change from time to time) include:

  • • Bored Report: a report from the Forum Board with highlights from the   last Board meeting
  • • (In)Voluntary Commitment: news from Forum committees about their   activities
  • • Incidentally...: upcoming Forum programs, events, and incidental   happenings (meaning anything else you want to share with us - such   as exciting work events or news)
  • • Blue Light Special: resources, good ideas, and random thoughts   about communicating
  • • Expert's Corner: hints or tips from those with specific subject   knowledge
  • • Profile: getting to know your fellow Forum communicators

Finally

No comments, quotes, information, or observations about an individual should be submitted unless submitted by the individual themself.

Due to space limitations (one page per e-mail), we may not be able to use every submission.

Submissions may be edited in length, and additional information may be added in order to keep submissions within the same format and tone as the rest of the newsletter.

E-mail submissions for the ForUM Communicator should be sent to forcomm@umn.edu.
