Communicating on Equity & Diversity Workshop

Our efforts in advancing equity and diversity will mean little if we can't communicate effectively with our key constituents and stakeholders—especially around our efforts and successes. This workshop addresses how our various means of communication do—or do not—send messages that are perceived as welcoming and inclusive. It also addresses the challenges, strategies, and outcomes found in a strong equity and diversity communication plan.

This 90-minute workshop is an abbreviated version of the full Office of Equity and Diversity program. Join fellow communicators in this collaborative forum as we learn to effectively prioritize equity and diversity in our communications. Due to the interactive nature of this event, online participation options will not be available.

This presentation and workshop will be led by Matt Sumera, Senior Public Relations Consultant and Director of Student Communications at the University of Minnesota. Attendees will get an overview of the strategic plan, see examples of unit-level communications, and work in groups to develop ideas for integrating the strategic plan and telling compelling stories.

He works with the President's office, the Vice Provost for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, and other administrative units on communications related to university initiatives, strategic plans, student affairs, and other priorities.
